What is the difference between Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)?
-
Basic:
The Basic MOT training is required training for those individuals who will be working in the traffic control zone and whose responsibilities include flagging traffic. There are no minimum classroom requirements, but there are rules and procedures that must be followed. A person who has successfully completed the Intermediate, Intermediate Refresher, Advanced, or Advanced Refresher course and holds current, valid, and verifiable wallet card may provide "in-house" Basic MOT training. The Regional Centers also offer the Basic MOT course. -
Intermediate:
The Intermediate MOT training is required training for those who work in the traffic control zone and have direct responsibility for the following: placement of work zone traffic control devices, field maintenance of work zone traffic control devices, inspecting placement or operational function of work zone traffic control devices, or drafting/electronically generating work zone traffic control plans. -
Advanced:
The Advanced MOT training is required training for engineers or supervisors, such as the engineer responsible for the work zone traffic control development and basic placement of control devices, and/or the work zone supervisor.

What are CEUs for?
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU), a nationally recognized standard unit of measurement. It is defined as each contact hour of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instructors. The number of CEUs are issued based on the class length and are convertable into Professional Development Hours (PDH) at a rate of .1 CEU to 1 PDH. Some organizations require CEUs for employment and/or advancement. CEUs are not equal to college credit.
For which courses can I earn CEUs?
All live workshops and MOT courses are approved for CEU credit. This is not automatic. You are responsible for letting the instructor know that you would like to receive CEUs for the workshop. You will be given a form to fill out and turn in to your instructor. If you fail to obtain the form during the workshop, e-mail Chris Ritch or call (352) 392-2371 ext. 223. For FTSTP courses, email Alison Evans or call (352) 392-2371, ext. 298. For CEU credit in the FTSTP courses, participants are required to pay a $7.00 fee.
